Last night in youth group, Shaun started us off with listening to a video by Francis Chan (here’s the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfCT3mXcA00 ). It was called “Do you like Jesus?” It talked about how many times we like Jesus and the things about him, but do you really actually want to BE like Jesus? Afterwards we looked at 1 Corinthians 13, Philippians 4:8, and 1 John 2:6 (the first 2 passages we are working to memorize as a group right now). From these passages we talked about how we can really begin to be more like Jesus by applying the things he says in the Bible. We also talked about the different things that stuck out to everyone in the video and were able to have a time of discussion and questions with the youth about various things. By asking questions we begin to use our brains more and are able to really live out our phrase of “Think critically so we can live biblically”.
What is one thing you can do from those verses to become more like Jesus this week?

We will be continuing our series on relationships tonight. What does the bible say about boy/girl relationships? Does it say anything?
The bible has a lot to say about relationships. Contrary to what culture, tv, music, movies and media as whole has to say about marriage/relationship we will begin digging through God’s Word to learn valuable truth on this subject. I personally believe that the only reason for dating, getting into a relationship should be for the goal and end purpose of marriage. If you are dating without the goal of marriage in the near future, I would ask you to reconsider your motives. Anyway, we will start out by having an open discussion on dating/relationships, so come with all your questions. You will be able to ask them anonymously if you like and we will try to address each one. Hope to see you there!!!

Our dear friend Kaela has been in the hospital for a little over a week now and underwent a major brain surgery. She is gaining strength and recovering from the surgery well. Please keep her and her family in your prayers as they journey though this difficult time in their lives!!! We took Elliana to see her and she brought lots of joy to the room and was so excited to see her friend Kaela! She spent most of the time talking words of encouragement to her as only a one year old can.
We learned tonight that God is God and ruling and reigning in heaven yes, but He is also our Loving Heavenly Father!! When you think about a father what do you think about, whether good or bad? Loving, caring, protector, never there, abusive, alcholic, mean, etc… whatever it is whether good or bad, we often use our perspective of our earthly father and view God when we hear Him called father. This is not true of our Heavenly Father, we can not compare Him with our earthly father’s even as awesome as they may be because even they will let us down. God as our Heavenly Father is perfect and complete not lacking anything, He knows us better then we know ourselves and …. listen ….. He ONLY want the very best for our lives!!!! Now does that mean He wants us to have any easy life or that He will cause us to be healthy, wealthy and rich…. uh no …. but it does mean He will never leave us or forsake us and will always love us perfectly, never letting us down!! We are the ones that let Him down, by not trusting Him and listening to Him!!!! A father is meant to be a protector, provider, and priest to his family and that is exactly what God is to us. Listen, whatever your earthly father is not your heavenly Father is everything. When you need a shoulder to cry on… cry out to God, He will listen. When you need an encouraging word, go to His word…. He calls you His son or daughter… He has created you in His own image….. and He doesn’t make mistakes…. no matter what the world or your family tells you … God has created you for a PURPOSE!!
As we began our series on relationships this week, we started with the most important relationship of all … our relationship with God. We discussed the importance of maintaining a healthy relationship with our Heavenly Father, because from this relationship stems every other relationship we are involved with. We studied the importance of ridding ourselves of baggage and sin and how even as believers can very easily accumalate baggage from those around us and even those closest to us. The only way to completely remove the baggage from our lives is through Jesus Christ and understanding He has come to carry our burdens and surrender them unto Him. Matt 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest to your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” The question I ask you, what baggage are you holding on too today?
